Lord Dunsany
1878 – 1957
More precisely known as Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, the 18th Baron Dunsany, he was an Anglo-Irish writer and dramatist.
Raised at the historic Dunsany Castle in County Meath, Ireland, Dunsany was a true Renaissance man, dividing his time between his vast literary pursuits and a wildly active lifestyle. He was an avid big-game hunter, a decorated military veteran of the Boer War and World War I, and an internationally competitive chess player
He published more than 90 books during his lifetime, and well as hundreds of short stories, plays, novels, and essays. He developed a reputation as a writer in the 1910s and is best known today for the 1924 fantasy novel The King of Elfland’s Daughter, and his first short story collection, The Gods of Pegāna, which depicts a fictional pantheon. Many critics feel his early works effectively pioneered the creation of fictional mythos in modern literature.
